Placy AR (“Placy”, “the app”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) is an iOS application that turns a photo you provide into a 3D model, lets you place and record it in augmented reality, and share the result. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we process when you use Placy, why, with whom it is shared, how long it is kept, and what rights you have.
If any term in this policy is unclear, or if you want to exercise any of the rights described below, contact us at support@aroundstudio.io.
Placy is operated by an individual developer:
The individual above is the “data controller” for the personal data processed through the Placy app, under applicable laws such as the EU/UK GDPR.
We only process the data we need to run the app. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your uploaded content to train machine-learning models.
Placy uses Sign in with Apple to create and authenticate your account. When you sign in we receive from Apple and store on our backend:
Access and refresh tokens issued by our backend are stored in the iOS Keychain under the service app.placy.auth. They are shared with the Placy Share Extension via an App Group container so the extension can upload a photo on your behalf when you share to Placy from another app.
.usdz / .glb), their preview thumbnails, and any custom object name you set are stored on our backend and cached on your device (Documents/Models/) so you can re-use them offline.PhotosPicker or explicitly share to the app; it does not access your full photo library. If you grant permission, we register your device for push notifications. This creates an APNs device token which is translated into a Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) token and sent to our backend so we can notify you when your 3D generation is ready. You can revoke this permission at any time in iOS Settings → Notifications.
Placy sells consumable generation credits (“tokens”) through Apple In-App Purchase (StoreKit 2). When you buy tokens:
We use Firebase Analytics (Google LLC) to understand how Placy is used, improve features, and fix bugs. Analytics events may include screen views, feature interactions, generation events, device model, OS version, app version, language, and a pseudonymous Firebase installation ID. Firebase Analytics does not receive your Apple ID, your email, or your uploaded images.
System-level crash reports and performance logs may be collected by Apple and — only if you have opted in at the iOS level (“Share with App Developers”) — shared with us in aggregated form.
We use the data described above to:
Where the EU or UK GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases:
You may withdraw your consent to push notifications at any time in iOS Settings. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing performed before the withdrawal.
Placy relies on the following third parties. Each operates under its own privacy policy:
| Service | Purpose | Data shared | Policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Inc. | Sign in with Apple, StoreKit / App Store purchases, APNs push delivery, optional diagnostics | Authentication payload, signed IAP transaction, APNs token, crash/performance reports | https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/ |
| Google LLC (Firebase) | Firebase Cloud Messaging (push routing) and Firebase Analytics (usage analytics) | FCM token, analytics events, device/app metadata, installation ID | https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy |
| Third-party cloud ML inference provider | Generating the 3D model from your uploaded image | The uploaded image and an opaque generation identifier. We do not share your Apple ID, email, display name, or token balance with this provider. | Provided upon request — contact us |
| Category | Where stored | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| Account record (Apple user ID, email, display name) | Our backend | Until you delete your account |
| Uploaded source image | Our backend | Deleted after the 3D generation completes |
| Generated 3D model and preview | Our backend | Until you delete the object from your library, or until you delete your account |
| Authentication tokens | iOS Keychain (shared with the Share Extension via App Group) | Until sign-out, account deletion, or device reset |
Local library and cached assets (SwiftData, Documents/Models/) |
Your device | Until you remove the object, sign out, or uninstall the app |
| In-app purchase records (Apple signed transaction, transaction id, product id, credited amount) | Our backend | Retained for as long as required by tax and accounting law — kept even after you delete your account |
| Firebase Analytics events | Google servers (Firebase) | According to Firebase Analytics defaults |
When you delete your account, we erase all personal data we hold about you on our backend — account record, library entries, generated 3D models, previews, cached source images (if any are still present), token balance, push notification token — except Apple In-App Purchase transaction records, which we are legally required to retain for tax and accounting purposes. These records are kept in a detached form: they are no longer linked to an active account and are not used for any other purpose.
Deleting the Placy app from your device does not delete the data stored on our backend. To remove backend data, sign in and delete your account (see Section 8).
We share personal data only:
We do not sell or rent your personal data, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Depending on where you live, you have rights regarding your personal data. These may include:
To delete your account and all personal data we hold on our backend, use the “Delete account” option inside Placy (Settings), or email support@aroundstudio.io from the address associated with your account. After we verify the request, we erase your account and all associated data (library entries, generated 3D models, previews, cached source images, token balance, push notification token) within a reasonable period.
The only exception is Apple In-App Purchase transaction records, which we are legally required to keep for tax and accounting purposes. After account deletion these records are detached from your account and are no longer used to identify you — see Section 6 for details.
No security measure is perfect. If we become aware of a personal-data breach that affects you, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by applicable law.
Our backend and our third-party subprocessors (notably Apple and Google) may process data outside the country from which you use Placy, including the United States. Where EU/UK data-protection law applies, these transfers are covered by the Standard Contractual Clauses and equivalent safeguards offered by those providers.
Placy has an Apple App Store age rating of 4+, meaning it does not contain material unsuitable for young children. The age rating reflects the app’s content only; it does not mean Placy is designed for, or marketed to, children.
Because Placy requires a personal account (via Sign in with Apple) and processes photos the user provides, it is intended to be used by adults and by minors above the minimum age at which, under applicable local law, they can consent to the processing of their personal data without parental involvement (13 in most jurisdictions; 14, 15 or 16 in certain EU/EEA countries).
We do not knowingly collect personal data from children below that minimum age without verifiable parental consent. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at support@aroundstudio.io and we will delete the data and close the account.
Children using Placy under parental supervision should do so through an Apple Family Sharing child account, which lets the parent control purchases and data-sharing decisions through Ask to Buy and Screen Time.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Effective date” at the top of this page reflects the latest version. Material changes will be announced in the app or by another appropriate means before they take effect.
